As one might expect, one of the best ways to stay up on the up-and-coming artists is to pay attention to the veterans that are consistently producing good music themselves. Despite flying below the radar to many, Don Vickers is an impressive artist. I know I’ve turned some people onto his work since my original article. It’s only natural that I take a look at some material he requested me to put an ear to. As expected, his request was met with a positive review which you are currently reading.
Meet Kaitlyn Alyse - not even 20 years old and already possessing an appreciation for real country music. Far too often I feel so frustrated feeling like so many younger people fail to appreciate actual country music. A look at her YouTube Channel shows that she certainly has an ear for the good stuff. Here you will find covers of Gary Stewart, Merle Haggard, and Miranda Lambert to name just a few.
The focus here is on Hit the Road, which Alyse began putting together on her own. Vickers has been giving her some vocal and guitar lessons, which makes him a great person to throw some ideas off of. She decided to show him what she had been working on and Vickers was impressed. She came in armed with the chorus and opening verse and then the song came together. Vickers put together all of the music and the two finished the lyrics together. A few finishing touches and they have built a solid sassy tune.
Hit the Road is an upbeat tempo twangy boot stomper with the heavy fiddle we’ve come to expect from Vickers. Any woman out there can relate to this song if they have reached the breaking point with some dead beat dude. If any person puts up with someone that has cheated or been unfaithful in any way, it’s time to go. Life is too short for that nonsense. And to think, she’s even nice enough to pack your bags for you! What a sweetheart.
Take a look at the video for this song and also check out some of these covers I came across. I hear rumors of new music in the coming months…so stay tuned.
