To say I’m Not The Devil has been a smash hit for Cody Jinks is an understatement. It is a song that has turned massive amounts of listeners hungry for real country, to be rabid fans of Jinks. One of the writer’s to this song is a very close friend of Jinks and can often be seen while on tour together. Mr. Ward Davis decided to finally record his own special version of this song to the delight of Cody Jinks.
This is a song where the delivery and lyrics speak for itself and spending large amounts of time trying to describe it is a borderline waste of time. Davis chose to record this stripped down piano version and it really creates a raw energy that makes it his own. What I enjoy most is how both Jinks and Davis now have their own special versions of this song that their fan can enjoy without feeling like it’s the same old song and execution. It's a bit more mellow in nature and I find that Davis has a considerably smoother voice that the rougher outlaw tones of Jinks.
One of the special benefits surrounding Cody Jinks is the incredible community that provides a receptive platform for someone like Ward to release this song. It doesn’t take a genius to realize how passionate people are about those who associate with Jinks personally. By releasing his own version of I’m Not the Devil, Davis can count on a large amount of people to share it all over social media. Think of how incredible a platform that is and I’ve said it before, that the Flockers Facebook group is so incredibly supportive of many artists like Ward. I had came across this because of someone sharing it in that very group.
It’s just one of the many benefits of being part of this independent resurgence that is growing larger by the day. Let me know what you think of Ward’s version!
