Long Hot Summer Day. The first song I ever heard by now one of my favorite bands, the Turnpike Troubadours. I vividly remember first hearing that song and the video someone had put together on YouTube. I had been slowly working my way into Texas Country, truthfully not even knowing what regional style of music it was. Someone had posted this video on a website and it took me a few times to get into it. But soon enough, I was hooked on these guys. And if you haven’t heard of this band, you should. And quite frankly, pretty soon, you’ll know regardless.
Having followed these guys for about 5 years now, it’s easy to understand why so many people love their music. What I have found, is there are so many incredible artists out there making good music. There are far fewer who create music that continues to raise the bar for their competition. With any art form, there are an elite few that stretch their abilities to a level that is hard to match.
With Evan Felker’s unique vocals and their fiddle heavy style, the Turnpike Troubadours defy mainstream music. Think about it. They take large doses of fiddle along side a very traditional, yet contemporary band, and make music most anyone can enjoy. Every person I have told about this band, and gives it a chance, loves it. It’s memorable to the listener. It’s different, yet familiar. It’s the type of music you wanted all along but didn’t know you wanted. It satisfies musical taste you didn’t even know you had. Because, my fine friends, it’s real country that is exclusive to this band. You aren’t going to get music and story telling and clever lyrics of this caliber from just about anyone else.
The songs that will hook you right away are their signature upbeat boot stompers that will have you grinning from ear to ear. You CRANK these in the car. They’re fun, they’re easy to sing along with and yet, their memorable. This band’s songs will cling to you like your Grandpa’s famous weekend oatmeal. (Someone needs to tell him to add more milk!)

Having met impressive success charting their past few records, publicity from major publications has ramped up. And rightly so. Wouldn’t you want to know why so many artists and bands from the Texas Scene are taking the spotlight away from mainstream artists when new albums come out?
With buzz beginning to rapidly grow from their announcement of A Long Way From Your Heart due out October 20th, now is as good a time as any to get accustomed to their music. We’ve heard The Housefire off this album so far, and I, like so many, are salivating at the mouth in anticipation.
