We all go through it - a tough break-up with someone you really care about. It’s inevitable and there’s no easy way to get through it unfortunately. Time is your biggest ally when trying to move on. Everyday you become a little stronger and you just have to bow your head and push forward. In times like these we tend to lean on songs to get through. You pay attention to the lyrics more and select the slower paced songs where you can dial in completely. You aren’t looking for the next toe tapper you’re reaching for the slow songs full of heartbreak. With a voice that is infused with Gary Allan and Aaron Watson, Jay Dirks is here to help get you through a recent break-up.
The whole instrumental side of It Won’t Last perfectly fits the message of a recent break-up. The thumping drum throughout paired with the fiddle creates that feeling of trying to get over a someone. Jay and Kristen sound excellent together, each taking their turn in the spotlight. The song has that air of healing and references the likeness to removing a cast. In a beak-up you are literally plucking a large portion of your life out. Sometimes it can feel like an extension of you and whether you made the decision to end it or not - it’s never easy.
This song lets you that it is going to be ok. You WILL get through it. As impossible as it may seem, with time things will get better. You’re not going to feel like you’ve been ripped apart forever. Hell some people are even able to find love again after going through a divorce. With the billions of people that our in our world, there is bound to be someone else out there for you. Maybe someone who you are a better fit for. While you should spend some time reflecting before hopping into a serious relationship, you’ll never fully get over it unless you take that leap.
I enjoyed this song quite a bit and I hope it does some good for Dirks. He’s got a great voice and I loved all the fiddle throughout this song. There’s subtle pedal steel in the background if you listen carefully. Be sure to check out his other music as well, he’s got some great tunes.
Thank you your service, Jay.
