Do you know what it's like to be someone who doesn't quite fit in with the masses? Are you the type that feels uncomfortable when you go against the grain? Maybe you're the person that slams on the brakes when you are speeding and see the cop staked out on the side of the road. Heck maybe you are like the unfortunate lady that took the extra souvenirs from Ellen DeGeneres because she didn't realize she was being filmed. All of these situations are usually cases where people are followers and can't think for themselves. They can't NOT fit in or abide by the rules because "no one else does" or so they say. There is a very talented female artist that is working to spread the importance of individuality. Vocal powerhouse, Natalie Rose is determined to continue her rise in country music with her excellent tune, Conformity.
At first listen you can't hep but be swept off your feet with Natalie's stunning vocals. She has such an incredible voice that just commands your attention. Her story began at a young age where she found a natural ability for music. I laughed reading her narrative because I too learned to play guitar (she played piano) by ear. I can read a little music, but my ear is usually what I would trust because I could hear the notes versus actually trying to focus on note reading. I encourage you to read her inspirational bio HERE to help understand what Natalie is all about. Her motive for her song Conformity will become quite clear.
Natalie Rose had a tough upbringing because of bullying and she was unhappy with her looks. As a fellow glasses wearer, I can totally understand the frustration that can come with that. If you start to add all sorts of bullying into the mix, it just becomes a nasty time in your life. While I never had to go through something like that, I can only imagine how ruthless people were. People can flat-out just suck and be downright nasty. She ended up being home schooled because it got so bad. How many people do you think just picked on her because others were doing it? Many bullies try to self deflect and pick on others to cover their own insecurities.
This song left an impression on me because I have such a respect for those that embrace their differences. She has worked her butt off to pave her way through music. She has met and performed with impressive names such as, Ray Price, Gary Allan and Aaron Watson. You won't reach your dreams if you just follow everyone else and work the same old job for 8-9 hours a day. You will likely do just fine and many live a happy life, but there is something to be said for breaking free of the mold and following your passion.
Being different. Taking risks. Not listening to what everyone else has to say. Ignoring the put-downs. Believing in yourself and taking yourself out of your comfort zone. You refuse to conform. It's what this song is all about and I could not agree more and respect Natalie Rose for writing it. In an age where even country music has become a big blob of tasteless sameness, I want to see different. People would be able to just be who they are without being bullied or feeling overly self-conscience about it. Great song, check it out.
Just a Massachusetts guy supporting Texas and other independent country/Americana artists.
