Well it’s that time of year yet again. It’s cold as hell, the ground is frozen and the pavement in cold and an uninviting shade of grey. But have no fear, one of my favorite bands is coming to New England! Tonight, Friday January 26th, the boys of Whiskey Myers are having a free concert at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT!
Last year, I was able to attend their show in Boston at the Paradise Rock Club and they tore the place down. If you are looking for a band that leans towards the southern rock side, yet they can rep some twanginess, then Whiskey Myers just may be your new favorite.
I got into these guys 7+ years ago and would routinely play them while I would drive my bus route in college. I got hooked on their 2008 album, Road of Life with songs like Kyle Hope, Thief of Hearts, Summer 2005, and one of my all time favorites, Lonely East TX Nights. It’s safe to say that these guys have blossomed over my 7+ years of listening, and it’s been amazing to watch their rise. I forget how into the Texas bands I was long before they were even talked about up here. Think back to 2010 and 2011 when I was getting into this music. The indie country/Americana following was so minor compared to the present. And in many ways, it’s still in it’s infancy. We can thank streaming and YouTube for a lot of that spread.
I will be sure to share my thoughts with this concert and I’m hoping to try something new. I’ve been busy and have ceased my videos as they aren’t really something I’m happy with currently. It takes time and practice to make progress and learn, and putting out the same type of content while working a full time job always doesn’t allow you to improve. It has caused me to take a step back and devote time towards learning more about telling the story, editing and my software. There are some incredible ideas in my head, but like most things, it doesn’t happen overnight. I’m hoping to have something to share down the line… and this concert is a great step towards that. Stay tuned and hope to see some fellow listeners at this show!
Just a Massachusetts guy supporting Texas and other independent country/Americana artists.
