Mr. Shooter Jennings has a new single that features some back-up input from some of the largest names in Texas Country. It’s catchy as hell and even better is that it’s proceeds go to the Rebuild Texas Fund.
One of the most fascinating things to be about Texas is the sense of pride that many have. Yeah we have pro Massachusetts slogans and such, but honestly they pale in comparison to Texas. Everybody knows Texas is proud of being Texas. It’s one of those things that you can’t help but notice and in a lot of ways, it’s why I’m so intrigued by the state. What’s also interested me is how so many artists collaborate on songs such as this one. While the “Hell Yeah” cheers are where you’ll hear Ray Benson, Jason Boland, Whiskey Myers, Kacey Musgraves, Kris Kristofferson, and Randy Rogers, many other songs have full duets.
I read an article about this song from Rolling Stone and thought it was funny how the song came to fruition.
In a statement accompanying the release of "Do You Love Texas?" Jennings says he cut the song prior to Hurricane Harvey, but that it was Cobb's idea to donate its proceeds to disaster relief in Houston and the surrounding areas. "Dave and I are like little kids in the studio. When nobody else is around, we say goofy kid things to each other. Some of our greatest collaborations come from ideas like that," Jennings says. "Dave turned to me and said, 'Hey man, Texas loves you. We need to write a song for Texas.' I looked at Dave and sang, 'Do you love Texas?' And he said, 'Hell yeah!' And I sang, 'So do I.' And the rest of it fell right into place."
Give it a listen below and check out the lyric video. I really enjoyed it and think this one will be a favorite of Texans years from now.
Just a Massachusetts guy supporting Texas and other independent country/Americana artists.
